Rambling - February 2009 Report

Sunday 8th February, a clear afternoon with a couple of inches of snow on the ground and eleven people looking forward to a good walk. From Upper Cross we walked through the village along Main Road and turned right into Parsonage Lane, turning left at the end and continuing to Fieldside.

Here we crossed the Blewbury Road and took the path that heads East past Tadley stream, we followed the path until it crossed Mill Brook then went South East to join the track that comes from Sheencroft Farm. At the track we turned left and followed the path until we reached the paddocks of Aston Upthorpe Stud. We turned right through the "kissing gate" and followed the tree lined path until we came out onto the Hagbourne Road, crossing the road, we then took the path up on to Blewburton Hill.

It was at this point it started to lightly rain / snow. On the top of the hill we found a very large snowball (about 3 foot across!) some of the group thought it would be fun to roll it in the snow and make it even bigger! After admiring the view for a few minutes (Blewbury and the surrounding countryside covered in a blanket of snow) we made our way off the hill taking the path that heads West past Winterbrook Farm into Blewbury.

In Blewbury we walked along Besselslea Road turning right into Bridus Way, then left into Berry Lane, at the end turning right into Church End. We then turned right and took the track by the village hall, that passes the site of the old Blewbury sewage works, we continued across Moor Lane and back to East Hagbourne. Here we turned left and followed the path back to Church Close and back to Upper Cross.

Just under 6 miles in just over 2¾ hours.
