Rambling - November 2009 Report

Sunday 8th November, a cool and slightly damp day. 11 people ready for our annual remembrance walk to the war graves at Harwell.

We left Upper Cross, went through the church yard and followed the path to the old railway line. Here we turned left and took the railway line to Upton. In Upton we turned right and followed Fieldside and Station Road, bringing us out onto the A417. We crossed the road and took Chilton Road to go up Hagbourne Hill, crossing the Chilton to West Hagbourne road we took the byway past Hagbourne Hill Farm and over the A34 and into Harwell Field.

At the cross roads we turned right and followed the Holloway into Harwell village. Crossing the A417 again we took the steps that lead down into Broadway, then right into Wellshead Lane. We then took the path to the right of the church leading to the cemetery. In the cemetery we stopped to pay our respects at the war memorial and well tended war graves, which consist mainly of allied aircrew.

We then continued on the path bringing us out on the B4493 Didcot Road, we turned right and followed the road until it crossed over the A34, where we turned right again and followed the path that joins the Driftway. We followed this towards West Hagbourne, next turning left and then right bringing us into York Road. We then followed Main Street and Foxglove Lane, taking us under the old railway line, back through the church yard and back to Upper Cross.

Just over 7 miles in just under 2 3/4 hours.

Why not join us for next months!
