East Hagbourne Parish Council update

Image of EHPC logo of memorial cross
The impact of the Coronvirus COVID-19 crisis on the ability of all parish councils to hold their statutory meetings has caused the government to remove the need for meetings to be in person. Whilst we await clarification of the change in law, the Parish Council formally resolved at its virtual meeting on 26 March in the interests of public health to approve temporary delegated authority under Section 101, Local Government Act 1972 to transact normal business of the Council to the Proper Officer of the Council (Clerk) Laura Lloyd, acting in consultation with the Chairman and councillors until the ban on public meetings is lifted. This means the Council will use email and virtual meetings to consider strategic issues, with routine and administrative business handled by the Clerk and nominated councillors.
The cemetery will continue to operate and accept interments at this time.  The Clerk, Laura Lloyd, is the burial authority for the parish and will work with funeral directors (with the guidance of the Chairman of the Cemetery committee) to ensure that any government guidelines relating to COVID-19 restrictions are followed.

A big thank you to everyone who came to the Litter Pick. It was a huge success with so many folk turning up! The sun was shining and the air was fresh.

A special thanks to Laura Lloyd who actually does all the organising and Crispin (via Mish Topping) who, day to day is out there in our village picking up litter. It makes a real difference!

EHPC advice for Villagers re the Coronavirus

Image of EHPC logo of memorial cross

Dear Neighbour,

We know these are worrying times and many of us will need to isolate ourselves at some point because of Coronavirus. It may be difficult for you to go out and get the things you need – or you may know people in this position and want to help them. Being in isolation may also be very lonely. East Hagbourne is a community full of caring neighbours who would like to offer assistance if you need it.

We can:
* Help collect items, for example prescriptions or shopping
* Give you a call if you are feeling alone
* Take out your bins
* Post mail

If you need any help, or if you would like to volunteer to help others, please email us at We will do our best to help.

If it is urgent, or you don’t have email, please text or call us on 07568 395228 or the clerk on 07891 551851.

For food deliveries, we note that the village community shop is offering home deliveries to vulnerable parishioners – please call 01235 811815 (between 9.00 and 12.00) or email

This initiative is in addition to helping your immediate neighbours directly as many of you are probably doing already.

Additional support and guidance is being offered by AGE Concern Oxfordshire or call 01865 411288 which will connect straight to an answerphone where you can leave your name and contact number for a callback.

If you are feeling unwell, please follow NHS guidance Call NHS 111 or go online to NHS Direct.

This community initiative and leaflet is supported by East Hagbourne Parish Council – if you wish to confirm it is genuine please call the clerk, Laura Lloyd on 07891 551851.

By contacting us, you consent to the use and storage of your personal data in order to facilitate community help. All personal information regarding requests will remain strictly confidential.

Staying in touch with St Andrew’s church

Hi Folks,
We have set up a new email address to help keep the St Andrew’s community in touch during this unprecedented time. Please feel free to use this address if you have any questions or concerns. I will share and or pass on information as appropriate.
Don’t forget to support the village shop. I think there are arrangements in the village to deliver things to people where necessary. We need to stay safe, but we also need to communicate with one another and maintain our social contacts.
We may not be holding services at St. Andrew’s, but we are the church and perhaps this is a time when we Christian soldier are being called to rise to today’s challenges.
Keep safe!
Andrew Kaye
St Andrew’s PCC Chairman

Brownies & Guides update

Logo of Brownies

Thank you for all your continued support – we recognise this is a difficult and unsettling time for you, your families and our communities.

You will have seen the UK Government has today announced new measures around Coronavirus (COVID-19) and has advised against all non-essential travel and social contact.

We have taken the decision therefore, to suspend Girlguiding unit meetings with immediate effect. Please contact your girls’ parents to let them know your unit will not be meeting until further notice. We will also email parents tomorrow and provide updates on social media to support you in your own communications.

We realise that this news is upsetting, please do support friends and girls within the Girlguiding community at this time, and those beyond our network. Although we are not meeting face to face, we will remain connected with our amazing community of volunteers and girls across the UK. We will be sharing our ideas as to how girls can continue to enjoy our brilliant programme of activities and badges from home and ways to stay in touch with their unit over the coming days.

Our website will be updated tomorrow and in the coming days to answer questions.

Best wishes

Fun Run update

Sadly in view of the COVID-19 outbreak, we have decided to cancel this year’s Fun Run.

I would like to thank you for offering to help. Hopefully everything will be back to normal next year when hopefully we can ask for your assistance again.
