Hagbourne Bowling Club “Big Bowls Weekend” – 27th to 29th May
If you liked curling, you’ll LOVE bowls! All that sweeping and shouting was all very exciting, and it made you want to give it a go, didn’t it? However, flat ice and granite stones are hard to come by around here. Don’t worry, the Commonwealth Games are coming to Birmingham this summer and will include Lawn Bowls played to the highest degree.
What’s that got to do with curling? Bowling has many of the same elements as curling, ballistic skill, tactical judgement, a bit of luck and of course, cut-throat competition. However, unlike curling it’s much, much easier to give it a go yourself.
Did you know that Hagbourne has a wonderful bowling green and a friendly group of folks who are equally happy to let you try bowling. It’s free and all you need is a pair of flat shoes.
But be warned; don’t be surprised if you get hooked.
It’s easy to get started in bowls and if you want to carry on, you’ll soon be able to play your part in a friendly game against other local teams. Most of all, it’s a lovely way to socialise in the summer sun whilst also putting some steps on the Fitbit.
Want to try it? You couldn’t have picked a better time. The Big Bowls Weekend is a national event that kicks off on Friday 27th of May and continues over the weekend of 28th and 29th.
It’s a golden opportunity for you, your friends and family to give bowls a go. There will be more details in the next Parish Mag and elsewhere but if you can’t wait until May then our season starts in mid-April. You can head down to the club from six o’clock on any Monday evening. We’re at the end of The Croft in East Hagbourne.
