Walk #8 – East Hagbourne Rambers

Sunday 11th March, a warm and sunny afternoon. 20 people and 1 dog ready for a good walk.

We left Upper Cross, went down Church Close through the Church yard and along the footpath towards the disused railway line. We turned left at Shovel Spring and followed the path crossing Moor Lane all the way to Upton, coming out by the Church. Here we turned left along Church Street, and then right into Stream Road, along the footpath, coming out onto the A417.

We crossed the A417 and then took the Hollow Way, past Upton lodge, the large tree house and the castellated folly! At the fork in the road we took the right hand path towards Alden Farm, half way along this path we turned right and followed the field edge path, turning left at the end. Then we turned right taking the path down the hill coming out onto the Lynch Way, we continued straight on bringing us into Chilton village.

We continued along Dene Hollow turning right on the path to Limetree Farm, crossing the stile on our right, we went through the large garden of the farm house coming out on the path that leads to the disused railway line. We followed this path along the cutting, crossing over to the other side of the line via the old bridge, this brought us back into Upton.

We crossed the A417 again, down Prospect Road then turned right into Fieldside, turning left at the end taking the path to West Hagbourne. We passed under the disused railway line, crossed Moor Lane and came out in West Hagbourne. Turning right we went along Foxglove Lane, under the disused railway again, past Shovel Spring and back to Upper Cross.

Just under 6.5 miles in just over 2 1/2 hours.
