It is now time to sign up for the 4th East Hagbourne Safari Supper which this year is in aid of Friends of St. Andrew’s, and Medecins sans Frontieres. The price of the 3-course dinner including pre-dinner drinks and coffee and mints is £25 per person and everyone takes their own drinks. Here is our proposed itinerary for the evening:

6.30 pm Meet at St. Andrew’s Church for a drink and some canapés. There you will be given an envelope containing the name and address of your host for the main course.

7.30 pm Walk to main course venue taking your own drinks with you. At the end of the main course a second envelope will be given with your dessert location.

8.45 pm Walk to dessert venue.

9.45 pm Walk to The Fleur de Lys for coffee and mints and the opportunity to buy an after dinner drink to round off the evening.

In order to get this event off the ground, we need you to sign up, buy tickets and let us know if you are willing to host a main course or dessert course (which including yourselves would be for 8 to 10 people, or more), or provide canapes (for 15 people) or simply to come along and safari around the village. If you would just like to safari, tickets will be available from the Post Office and any member of the Hagbourne Action Group. Please can you make sure you fill in the form below and hand in when buying tickets. Cheques made payable to “Hagbourne Action Group”.

Wildlife activies on the Railway Embankment

Sustrans has arranged a number of interesting wildlife activities over the Summer :

Friday 29th and Saturday 30th June Moth, Bat and Butterfly event:

– Join us trapping moths and listening to bats on Friday 29th from 9pm until late (starts at Chapel furlong, Upton)

– or the following morning to see what we found and look for butterflies (starts end of Lake Road, East Hagbourne)

Wednesday evenings between 20th June and 18th July:

– evening butterfly walks (7-9pm) meeting at Hagbourne Village Hall in East Hagbourne.

Hedgehog survey

– we are looking for volunteers to help run a hedgehog survey on the Sustrans route. This involves putting our camera traps and baited footprint collecting tunnels.

If we get sufficient volunteers the survey will run for 10 days from 23rd July to 3rd August. Volunteering would involve a training session then committing to walking the route to replenish the bait and paper at least two evenings during the survey period.

For information on any of these activities please contact lydia.blake@sustrans.org.uk
