Thank you to St Andrew’s for welcoming and blessing our pets.  A wonderful selection of 10 dogs, 3 rabbits, 2 cats, a tortoise and a Shetland pony as well as many children filled the church.

Volunteers needed to help ensure that the pool stays open. All offers of help are welcome and in particular a Chairman and Treasurer on the pool committee are needed. Full details in parish magazine.

It has been suggested that it would be nice to make new bunting for our 2019 St Andrew’s Church Christmas Tree and other Festivities and we would love you to put your name forward to help in this task.

We have produced an instruction sheet and a template to ensure
uniformity of size etc and would be very pleased to provide these and some material for anyone wishing to help make our bunting at home, which avoids having to take sewing machines, materials and an ironing board etc into church.  Bunting instructions.jpg

We are also seeking materials, reels of thread and any other
sewing/embroidery notions you may wish to donate.  Maybe too you have ideas for designs etc as we hope our bunting will be displayed and enjoyed for many years to come by everyone who loves and visits our beautiful church at this special time of the year.

The Phoenix Drama Group are performing a murder mystery comedy, THE BOLD, THE YOUNG AND THE MURDERED in Hagbourne Village Hall on Saturday, 14th September at 7.30pm with a bar opening at 7.00pm.  They have chosen to support SEASAW (grief support for children and young people in Oxfordshire)

Tickets are £10 (£8 full-time education) and are available in Hagbourne Post Office (during PO hours).  Tickets can also be bought through Wegottickets but a booking fee applies.

Hagbourne Action Group are also supporting this event and tickets can be bought or reserved through members:  Di Duff, Mary Harrison, Doug Amos, Susan Proctor, Marian Varnom, Alice Smith or Viv Stocks.

A new Action Group cup was also given to Fieldside for their wonderful Yellow Brick Road.

Faster Broadband is to be activated for 105 houses at the west end of the village.  You will see Openreach vans around and some digging up of the road/paths over the next few weeks. Completion is at the end of June.

Congratulations to Hagbourne United Football Club Reserves Team on a very successful season.

– Winners of the 2018-19 Division 4 title in the North Berks League by a margin of 12 points.

– 100 goals scored, the highest in the whole league.

– Winners of the League Cup which is for North Berks League Division 4 sides, beating close rivals Harwell & Appleford by one goal to nil after extra time in the final played at Milton FC.

But the icing on the cake must be in winning the A. G. Kingham Cup, which is open to all reserve sides, where they beat East Hendred Reserves, a very successful side playing 2 divisions higher, by 3 goals to nil at Abingdon United FC. Well Done lads!

Residents across southern Oxfordshire, who are signed up for brown bin collections, can put out twice as much garden waste during the extra garden waste weeks in May.

South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse district councils are giving those who are part of the paid-for service the opportunity to put out the equivalent of one extra bin’s worth of garden waste (around three large 80 litre bin bags) in the week commencing 20 May.

Residents should leave their extra garden waste out in bin liners or sacks beside their brown bins on their usual collection day during these weeks.  Trade waste bags will not be accepted., however you can re-use old compost bags.

The garden waste is taken to a recycling plant in Oxfordshire where it is used to make compost, which goes to local farmers, allotment holders and an annual compost giveaway.
